AI Readiness Assessment

An honest baseline across data, technology, skills, process and governance, with the specific gaps that would sink your first AI projects.

What it is

A readiness assessment tells you what would actually happen if you tried to put AI into production next quarter. Not a maturity score for its own sake — a list of the things that would break.

We look at five dimensions: the data you have and whether it is usable, the technology and platforms available to you, the skills in your teams, the processes you intend to change, and the governance that would have to approve it. Each gets a baseline and a short list of gaps, ranked by what they block.

Who it is for

  • Executives who have been asked for an AI strategy and need facts first
  • Mid-market companies deciding whether to build capability or buy a product
  • IT leaders whose business units are already buying AI tools independently
  • Organizations whose first AI attempt stalled without a clear reason

What is included

The deliverables below are the default scope. We adjust them to your situation during scoping and confirm the final list in writing.

Readiness baseline

Scored assessment across data, technology, skills, process and governance, with the evidence behind each score.

Gap register

Each gap, what it blocks, and the rough effort to close it.

Shadow AI inventory

The AI tools already in use across the business, including the ones IT did not procure.

Quick-win shortlist

Two or three things worth doing in the next 90 days, chosen for feasibility.

Executive readout

A short, plain-language briefing your leadership can act on.

Process and timeline

Indicative timings for a typical engagement of this type. Your scope, environment and availability of stakeholders will move them.

  1. Week 1

    Kickoff and data request

Agree scope, stakeholders and the evidence we need.

  2. Weeks 1–3

    Interviews and analysis

Interviews across IT, data, security and two or three business functions, plus a review of systems and data.

  3. Week 3

    Scoring and validation

We test findings with the people who gave them to us before finalizing.

  4. Week 4

    Readout

Report, gap register and executive session.

Outcomes we aim for

These are the goals we design the engagement around. They are objectives, not guarantees, and the result depends on decisions and effort on your side as much as ours.

  • A shared, factual starting point instead of competing opinions
  • Gaps ranked by impact, so remediation money goes to the right place
  • Visibility of AI tools already in use across the business
  • A defensible answer to "are we ready" that is not simply yes or no

Questions

About ai readiness assessment

How long does an assessment take?

Typically three to four weeks for a single business unit or a mid-sized company. Large, federated organizations take longer, and we would scope by business unit.

Do we need an AI strategy before this?

No. This usually comes first. A strategy written without a readiness baseline tends to assume capability you do not have yet.

Is ai readiness assessment the right next step?

Tell us the symptom rather than the solution. If a different service fits better — or none of ours does — we will say so.
